Asbestos Awareness the last A in our series of short blogs looking at the A to Z of courses we do.
Asbestos is still very common, especially in older buildings and can lay hidden for many years. Our training course for asbestos awareness is intended to give workers and supervisors the information they need to avoid work that may disturb asbestos, the fabric of a building, or other item which might contain asbestos. It will not prepare workers, or self-employed contractors, to carry out work with asbestos-containing materials or its removal. However, asbestos comes in many forms and recognising it before disruption is essential.
Course ratios – Asbestos Awareness
The course durations, training and testing ratios are
Half a day for up to 8 delegates.
We can run two half day sessions, these do not both need to be Asbestos – it could be one of our other half day courses which include
- Abrasive Wheels Awareness
- Safe working at heights
- Fire Warden
- Manual Handing
- Safe use of ladders and step ladders
- Harness and Fall arrest

Accreditation
Upon successful completion of the course the candidates will received a Kentra Training ID card (credit card size) detailing the course completed.
We work with the HSE advises for when refresher training is due.
They recommend refresher training every 3 – 5 years, depending on the frequency of the candidates use of the knowledge. For example if the candidate is using the machinery or equipment on a daily or weekly basis they would be able to have a longer time, 5 years before a refresher is required, whereas less frequent users are 3 years.
Training locations
At Kentra we have always provided on-site training, coming to you and delivering the training in your own space. On-site training is available for all the Asbestos Awareness courses.
To provide an alternative we opened our Training Centre in October 2018, and have achieved NPORS accreditation, meaning that you can come to us and we can register the training with the awarding body if required.
Training with us couldn’t be simpler, once you are booked on to the course all you need to bring is yourself and any personal PPE you may prefer. All the equipment and safety PPE is provided and we will provide the equipment and accessories for the course, however if you wish to bring any of your own equipment this is perfectly fine to do so and we can then train you on the machinery you are used to working with.
Due to the nature of the courses we provide, we also ask that candidates clothing be suitable for practical use of the equipment, including Safety Boots where possible.
